Dedicated to Sean and Michael. Be Smart. Get Tested. Have Safe Behaviors.

Dear Family and Friends,

I’d like to dedicate this last Blog posting, before the walk, to Sean and Michael.  They were such a cool couple when Sean was alive!  In their own way, they really made / make an impact on the HIV/AIDS Community!  I appreciate all they have taught me, and all the love that they have given me over the years.

Love: Be Smart. Get Tested. Have Save Behaviors.

Hey All,

Love is being smart and getting tested and having safe behaviors.  This will help stop the spread of HIV.  We can do this!  One person, one moment of good decisions.

Love is also about friendship.  Like my love and friendship for my Godmother Jackie and Sadie.  They are just awesome!

Squirrel: Michael/Sean DC Photo: Be Smart. Get Tested. Have Safe Behaviors.

Dear Family and Friends,

Below is a photo taken by Michael / Sean in Washington D.C.  The squirrel is hugging the road and wouldn’t let anyone pass by.  They didn’t know at the time, but that squirrel is ME!!  That’s right, it’s ME, ALAZAR.  and I have two things to say:

1.  If you want to pass by me, you gotta “Be Smart. Get Tested.  Have Safe Behaviors.”  Period. No if, ands or buts. Do it!  Thank you!

2.  If you want to pass by me, you gotta SPONSOR ME for the Portland AIDS Walk!  HIV is still spreading and Cascade AIDS Project is working to end that spread and helping people living with HIV/AIDS.  You can help too by SPONSORING ME!!  Please!  Today, here, now… you wanna pass by, then do it by sponsoring me!   The “Sponsor Me This Year” link is at the top of this page, under the photo of my Godmother Jackie and me!  Thank you!   Or click here now!

Support. Sean. Be Smart. Get Tested. Have Safe Behaviors.

Dear Family and Friends,

Do you know someone who has HIV?  Or someone whose family is impacted by HIV?  I’ll bet we all do!  Have you ever asked them what it is like for them to live with HIV?  Do they have special needs?  Are you part of their “network” of support?  I hope so!

My Friend Sean lived with HIV, but sadly died of cancer very quickly.  He took this photo (below) while I was there visiting Sean and Michael over Spring Break!  It was a great trip!  See also photo below of them at the last AIDS Walk.  They were an Awesome couple!!!

Did you know:  The CDC estimates that between 900,000 and 1.2 million  Americans currently are living with HIV (scary). Also, the number of people living with AIDS is increasing, as effective new drug therapies are keeping HIV-infected persons healthy longer and dramatically reducing the death rate (this second part is good!). .

Thanks for your support and sponsoring me for The Walk and reading my blog!

Am I Adorable or Am I Adorable? Be Smart. Get Tested. Have Safe Behaviors.

 Dear Family and Friends,

Sean loved dogs and people and kids and me!  This posting is from my dog Saphira!

Saphira: “What are you looking at? Can’t you see that I am trying to stay warm and your cold.  Get me my warm blanket, stop taking pictures of my cute, adorable, fantastic and perfect face, and get me my blanket – - please”!  Shiver, shiver…

Saphira:  “It’s important to talk about HIV.  Are you talking with someone about it too?  I hope so!  Are you getting them a blanket so they stay warm and comfortable because they are cold, but have questions about HIV, just like me?”

Warmly,

Dedicating my Walk In Loving Memory to Sean Sasser – - One of My Best Friends

Dear Family and Friends,

One of my best friends, Sean Sasser, died of cancer this week.

I got to know Sean after my first “Walk” didn’t go so well.  Malia and Michael arranged for me to meet him… He is the reason I did my second “Walk”, and third and fourth… he was my mentor and one of my best friends… he lost one partner to AIDS ,and  he was committed / married to Michael (CAP Director / AIDS United) and they supported and loved each other very much!!  It was awesome to see and be a small part of that love!

When Sean lived in Portland, we met every week and played and talked and had fun and worked through some of my issues… he helped me and he loved me and I loved him.  I already miss him so much.  Sean and Michael gave me a ticket to visit for Spring Break, and we had a blast!  And I saw Sean in June, and he was a little bit sick, but I didn’t know…

But now he is gone.  I believe he is with Grandma (she died July 4th), and with Madison, and Uncle Roger, and Conrad and Jimmy, and Grandpa…   stroke, kidney failure, suicide, AIDS and now cancer… that is a lot of dying.

Sean always said “look at the past but look forward to the future”… I still don’t know really what that means.  I wanted Sean and Michael to do the “Walk” with me this year.  This was my brilliant idea to help me be #1 again. That won’t happen now.

I don’t want to do the “Walk” without Sean and Michael.  Michael was my “competition” and Sean was my “support”.  I have very few sponsors this year… I WILL do the walk for Sean.  I might not be #1, but I will walk for Sean.

If you want to sponsor me, in dedication to Sean, please do it.  For Sean.  I know he would appreciate it.  Me too.  Thank you.  You can walk with me too if you want!  If you know any of Sean or Michael’s friends, please share this email and ask them to walk with me.  See photo below of Sean and me.

Warmly,

- – Alazar
